Eureka!

You know, they always say that women tend to synchronise their menstrual cycles when they live together after a period of time.

I believe this is quite true because my sister and I usually have our periods at about the same time.

Now, think about it, how do we actually synchronise a bodily function?

I believe it's our sense of smell.

Studies have shown that humans (especially women) have a sense of smell that can detect subtle changes and differences in scents.
Like when presented with tee-shirts of men with sweat on it, the women tend to choose the smell that differs most from her and seldom if never, choose the tee shirt with her own brother's scent.

So what is this?

We can smell hormones? And scents!

But we ourselves don't know it!

My theory is this.

Maybe this "loss" in brain function, "association", in us, that we subconsciously recognise a difference scent but we don't realise what it is, has been caused by the use and invention of language.

If this person is your brother, he can tell you he's your brother and not only through recognition, if you both give same account of a childhood or same evidence of a parent, then you don't need to smell him to know!

Or you live with your female room mate and she tells you her period is coming.

Our sense of smell has been used less and less over time and through evolution, causing our sense of smell to be less "linked" to our brain!
Like in dogs, they know and can associate this other dog's smell is that, and etc.

Maybe our sense of smell is less strong today because of language!

Hmm...

Okay, back to my second 2k word report for the week.
