My sister found a job for me!
It's at a company called Hempel, that's in Tuas, near the sea/checkpoint so it's very far in.
I checked the bus directory and there's only like one bus that goes in the route, which takes about 45-60 minutes to travel there! Crazy right. And that's from Boon Lay Interchange you know.
So today I went down for an interview for the position of HR assistant and the pay is S$8.50 per hour!
Can you believe it?
In one day I can earn one driving lesson money!
Now I know how HR Managers can earn so much.
Anyway, it's a Danish company that does the manufacturing of paint and they sell it to the companies in the shipyard at Tuas, I think.
The HR Manager said there's no canteen nearby so I'd have to pack lunch, or sometimes the colleagues there would cook, or sometimes one of them would drive us out for lunch, which is very okay with me because I'm not very good with social skills so I hate eating outside alone.
It makes me feel very depressed and very very afraid. And it's not because I don't like the lack of company.
And you know what's the best thing?
There's a shuttle bus in the morning that's right across my flat! It says so on the sheet.
"Clementi Ave 5, opposite Block 3*&!"
Although they leave like 7.20am, but I still think it's better than squeezing in with all the smelly and grumpy people going to work in the morning in trains and buses.
So scary.
I hate taking trains, especially when I'm alone because of my slight social phobia and...train seats face one another and it's like you have to face other people. Or during peak hours and your personal space is invaded from all sides.
Bus seats are much more private. You don't have to face people or accidentally look into the person across you in the eye and then quickly look away and pretend you're totally uninterested in them picking their nose or their underwear is showing or something.
I realise this is why I have this other phobia of ordering food from people at the counter.
Like you know, fast food restaurants or something.
Especially if I have to talk a lot.
For example,
Me: Erm, one Double Cheeseburger meal, please.
Cashier: Want upsize?
Me: Nope. Er, can I have more chilli sauce? Thanks.
Cashier: Okay okay. How about drink? Got Coke, Sprite, Green Tea, 7 Up...
Me: Sprite.
Cashier: Ah, member?
Me: No...
Cashier: All together $5.35.
Me: Okay.
Cashier: (Looks behind her shoulder) ONE DOUBLE CHEESBURGER MEAL!
I mean, these kind of social interactions that last more than 3 sentences sort of requires you to at least establish some eye contact.
I'm not good with eye contact.
My heart beats really fast and I have this 'fight or flight' feeling and I always stumble on my words, especially if it's a good looking person behind the counter.
Or like when I walk on the streets, I don't dare to look into people's eyes or faces if they are facing my direction.
Especially if it's a guy.
You know, some guys might disagree with what I'm going to say next but it's totally true. Because I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
So you look at a guy, while you're sitting on a bench eating something, or when you're walking down the street. You just happen to look at him while you're people-watching and he suddenly realises someone's looking.
The body language men usually displays shows a bit of 'strutting'.
The classic "oh there's a girl looking at me, maybe she's interested", and either he might walk with a straighter back in puffing out his chest (it's subtle) and the facial muscles relaxes and the only active things is his AHEM and his eyes.
Or, he'll give you that "What the hell are you looking at, I know I'm hot" (when he freaking isn't!) look.
Or, if he just happens to look into your eyes when you happen to look at him, and he does a double take to check you out and see if you're looking interested.
Sometimes, people can be so predictable.
For me, I don't like strangers to look at me because I'll keep thinking there's food stuck in my teeth or at the side of my mouth or I'm dressed inappropriately for outdoors.
That's why I feel much more comfortable looking at women.
Especially when they're walking alone on the street.
And especially if they're hot.
Usually they won't think too much because I'm a girl with a poker face when actually my mind is like totally checking her out.
Plus, they're much much much more better looking women than men in Singapore.
So that's saying a lot.
What was I talking about?
Oh yes, my new job.
It'll be only for a month, which is good because I'm going Bali and all that. I'm starting work this coming Monday. I hope the work is not too difficult.
Although I spent the first part of the year filling up my brain with stuff, I have been spending the last month making it nice and empty for the next semester, and my sister only told me about this job like yesterday, so I don't know if I'm prepared enough.
Hmm.
