I've just watched this episode on Naruto Shippuden that talked about Kakashi's past and how he got his Sharingan. Although very predictable, it was very sad!
Kakashi's dad was nicknamed the White Fang of Konoha and was well-respected by everyone in the Konoha village.
But he commited suicide because he didn't complete a mission in order to save his comrades. In the end, the own comrades he saved blamed him for failing the mission, and his father couldn't take the pressure and killed himself.
At age 9, Kakashi is already a Jounin!
It's a big deal because you first are a Genin (like elementary level), then you have to pass a rigorous test to get to the Chunin level (like secondary school) and then Jounin (sort of like Phd level...), and at age 9, he's already a Jounin!

And he's very irritating, whole day wear the mask, always cannot see his true face. Even when he's injured and his old team mate Rin was putting on the bandage for him, they only showed his back-view...
This is his teacher, the Fourth Hokage, nicknamed Yellow Fang, for his lightning speed/ability to move.
He's also Naruto's dad, although they don't say it until later.
I've suspected this since I watched Naruto like more than 5 years ago!

Kakashi got his Sharingan eye from his dead team mate, his body was half-crushed by rocks, and that was his gift for Kakashi, for being a Jounin..His name was Uchiha Obito.
His other team mate Rin, who was skilled with medical junjitsu, helped to transfer the eye..
Before that, Kakashi sort of saved Obito from some other shinobi's attack, and he lost his eye.
Kakashi emerged with his new Sharingan.
Even at 9 years old, he's so hot!

Time for revenge!
His Sharingan from Obito helped Kakashi to perfect his Chidori (Lightning of a thousand birds...) attack.
